At COP29 Green Zone, the Zero Waste Pavilion, created through the collaboration of the Zero Waste Foundation and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, attracted significant attention with its themes of environmental awareness and sustainable development. Shaped by the environmental and social development visions of Turkey’s First Lady Emine Erdoğan and Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, the pavilion showcased the shared values and environmental commitment of both countries.
The Zero Waste Foundation presented its pioneering projects on efficient resource use, recycling, and water efficiency at the pavilion. Its innovative solutions and educational programs provided an opportunity to promote Turkey’s zero-waste approach on an international platform. Visitors received detailed information about applications and projects aimed at raising environmental awareness.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation introduced Azerbaijan’s environmental projects alongside its efforts to preserve cultural heritage and social responsibility initiatives. Educational projects targeted at youth and artistic endeavors focused on sustainable development were particularly well-received by visitors.
A key highlight of the event was an environmentally friendly tree-planting initiative jointly organized by Turkey and Azerbaijan. Turkey’s First Lady Emine Erdoğan and Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva participated in the event online, launching a reforestation effort in a designated area in Azerbaijan. This meaningful initiative was supported by Kazakhstan’s First Lady Mariya Boranova, Uzbekistan’s First Lady Ziroat Mirziyoyeva, Turkey’s Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum, and the President of the Zero Waste Foundation, Samed Ağırbaş.
The Zero Waste Pavilion not only contributed to sustainable development goals but also brought the social and cultural visions of the two nations to the global stage. Representing the environmental commitment of Turkey and Azerbaijan, the pavilion became one of the standout highlights of COP29 and set an inspiring example worldwide.
