Zero Waste
Emine Erdoğan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, visited the Embassy of Belgrade, which is the first overseas mission to implement the Zero Waste Project under her patronage.
Emine Erdoğan, who accompanied President Erdoğan on an official visit to Serbia, visited the Embassy of Belgrade. During the visit, she congratulated the embassy for being the first diplomatic mission to implement the Zero Waste Project, alongside Serbia's Minister of Environment, Goran Trivan.
Emine Erdoğan emphasized that environmental issues are now part of diplomatic missions and expressed gratitude to Minister Trivan and the Belgrade Municipality for their support of the project. She hoped this commendable collaboration would serve as an example for fulfilling our responsibilities towards nature.
Highlighting the critical juncture in addressing environmental issues, she stated, "We must act rationally as a world, or we will leave a future full of disasters for our children. We must recognize that we are one family when it comes to protecting nature. In the fight against the environmental crisis, we must think 'we' rather than 'you and me.' Global warming affects the entire world, not just specific regions. Therefore, despite borders between countries, the environmental crisis leads us all to the same disaster."
Recalling the launch of the Zero Waste Project in Turkey in 2017, she mentioned the goal of spreading the initiative to 45% nationwide by 2020 and aiming for 100% by 2023.
Expressing that parents' greatest concern and effort is for their children to have a bright future, Emine Erdoğan continued, "A beautiful future is not only limited to good education and job opportunities. We can only speak of a bright future if we leave a world with clean air, soil, and water, and where resources are not depleted. Therefore, we must work tirelessly for the continuity of life. Just as we cooled ourselves in the shade of trees, fearlessly ate the fish we caught, and drank water to our heart's content, our grandchildren should be able to do the same."
After the program, Emine Erdoğan received information about the Zero Waste Project implementation at the Turkish Embassy in Belgrade and listened to songs performed by a children's choir.
Accompanying Emine Erdoğan during the program were Hülya Çavuşoğlu, the wife of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu; Şule Akar, the wife of Defense Minister Hulusi Akar; Meral Turhan, the wife of Transport and Infrastructure Minister Mehmet Cahit Turhan; and embassy officials.
